Estimated pre-order revenue has exceeded 4 billion dollars. So, there was talk of a 2 billion dollar production cost for the game, recouping that cost in a few days is truly a great achievement. However, I don’t want to talk about these things in this post. These are things you can read everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\nWhy Are the Founding Fathers Leaving?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
What I’m really thinking about is the breakup of the core team. Actually, at this point, rather than “how will GTA 6 be, will it be as good as before?”, the question is why the lead developers, the visionaries behind the game, are leaving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why are they leaving? Because those who see where projects that started with a dream and a clear ideal end up either leave, or start living a life squeezed into certain molds in a world where they can no longer be as free as before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just as it happened with GTA in the gaming industry, I think similar things happened with Counter-Strike as well. Minh Le and Jess Cliffe created a game that shook the world by building on top of a game that wasn’t theirs, a game that grew incredibly fast in a short time. Then Valve absorbed or purchased this game, call it what you will, and afterwards those young guys became salaried employees and later lost their jobs due to some events and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not Just the Gaming Industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
All of these are events happening on the surface. We can’t limit these kinds of events to just the gaming industry, I’m sure there have been many events in different sectors that I don’t know about but can guess. Because the pattern is simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is an entrepreneur or a team and they all think alike, they want to create not just a product but an idea, a soul, a character. Yes, they usually succeed at first because there is no structure restricting them or giving them orders. Small at first, but free. Then a factor that they need and that some people have in abundance comes into play: money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who are these people? We call them investors. Then they become partners. From this point on you can no longer act however you want and you slowly start losing the soul and character you had at the beginning, start giving them up for money, because you are no longer alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With your growing number of employees you have a segment that stays with you for a salary, and a management that wants their invested money back with more. You try to do better work but you are now under great stress because you have no choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Losing the Soul<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
At this point you also have to look at the market. While you used to create things for people who thought like you, now you start producing things for the masses to increase sales because that audience is no longer enough. And generally what happens is that the people who knew you with that soul in the early days start to not like you anymore because you stepped out of line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And hop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You lost that soul. You became a general producer, you started sacrificing everything you could say “we are different” about.
