Introduced with a starting price of just $599, this new MacBook neo claims to redefine the “budget-friendly” concept. Let’s see how true this claim really is?
New Colors and Durable Design
At first glance, the MacBook Neo keeps the classic MacBook aesthetic but also adds some differences. Its body, made of 90% recycled aluminum, is not only durable but also draws attention to the “Carbon 0” goal for 2030, which is a priority for Apple and many other companies.
Weighing 1.22kg (2.7 pounds), the Neo comes in four great colors: Silver, Indigo (Dark Blue), Blush (Light Pink), and the brand new, energetic Citrus (Yellow/Orange). These colors extend to the keyboard bed and even to special wallpapers, creating a completely integrated and stylish look.
13-Inch Liquid Retina Display
Apple hasn’t neglected to add beauties despite the price. The MacBook Neo comes with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display. It offers 2408×1506 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and support for 1 billion colors. However, I don’t want to pass without saying that in the comparisons I’ve seen, it falls behind the MacBook Pros in terms of color vibrancy.
The Heart of Performance: A18 Pro Chip and Apple Intelligence
Apple did not compromise on performance with the Neo. At the heart of the device lies the powerful A18 Pro chip, which we know from the iPhone 16 Pro family. This chip houses a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine optimized for artificial intelligence tasks.
So, what does this mean for us?
- 50% faster than the best-selling rival PCs in daily tasks like web browsing. We can clearly say that it is better than the processor inside the brand sold with “1.1Tb (1TB OneDrive/one year) storage space,” which has become a “meme” on the internet for its price level.
- Up to 3 times faster in on-device AI workloads (Apple Intelligence).
- Up to 2 times faster in creative tasks like photo editing.
We will see what the technical data will be in reality… The Neo, which has a fanless design, comes with the macOS Tahoe operating system and Apple Intelligence support.
All-Day Battery Life and Other Details
Coming with a processor like the A18 Pro, the Neo promises up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge according to Apple. This eliminates the need to carry a charger with our lightweight computer. In my opinion, one of the best things about Apple computers is this: the same performance and long battery life, whether plugged in or not.
Other standout features:
- 1080p FaceTime HD Camera: Clear and vivid image quality for video calls.
- Dual Microphones and Speakers: Speakers that support Spatial Audio.
- Magic Keyboard and Touch ID: Comfortable typing experience and fast, secure login.
- Connectivity: Two USB-C ports (one high-speed USB 3, one USB 2) and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.
